Terrific Temperatures

We have been learning about temperatures. Temperatures tell us if something is boiling, hot, warm, cold or freezing.

Miss Bradley asked us what the most 'freezing' or 'boiling' things or place we could think of. Have a look at the images we found that are freezing and boiling.

Winter Stories

We have been writing stories about winter because we are in this season right now. To plan our writing we talked with our buddies about how it made us feel, what it looks likes and how it effects the way we dress. We then used our bubble map to plan our writing. We put 'key words' into our bubbles that described winter. We the put these key words into sentences that made sense.

What do you think of our winter stories? Please make a comment on them, we would love to hear your feedback!

Learning to Skip

We are learning to skip because NSS will be participating in the Jump Rope for Heart in September. This is what a good skipper does....
1. We have to hold the handles in the right position.
2. The rope has to start behind our feet. Now we are ready to swing the rope.
3. We swing our rope down and then up over our head. We make circles with our arms.
4. We have to make sure that our rope does not tangle. If it does tangle, we try to untangle it ourselves.
5. We try to jump the rope with both of our hitting the ground at the same time.
6. We try to stand up straight when we jump and we bend our knees.
7. We try to keep the rope swinging. We keep trying to jump the rope.

8. We persevere - we keep trying until we get it right!!!

How many skips can you do in a row? Post a comment to let us know!

Bones, bones, bones at Discovery Time!

Today during discovery time, we have been exploring a variety of animal and human bones. We drew different kinds of bones using white chalk and black paper. After that, we looked at the skeleton graph to find the name of the bone we traced. The names were really unusual!!!

We also drew a skeleton, Manaias drawing was excellent because it was detailed. We put the loose bones together in the right places. We were unsure about the arm bones, so we used the skeleton picture to help us.

We want to find out more, here are some of our questions...

Do our bones look like the skeleton bones. - Jessica

Are the bones from a real animal? - Angel

I was wondering how we did the organ puzzle - Hannah

I wonder what our bones are made of? - Kurt

Suzy Teaches us about Lungs.

This is Suzy Cato. Today, we watched her show called Suzy's World. She taught us some interesting things about how our lungs work. We took some notes as we watched the show.

We learnt that...
Air travels down our oesophagus into our lungs.

We have two lungs.

When we breathe in, our lungs expand - they get bigger.
When we breathe out, our lungs shrink - they get smaller.

Oxygen is in the air we breathe. If we don't have oxygen, we can't survive.

We went for a run around the junior team playground.
After we ran, we found that our breathing changed. Our breathing got faster, our tummy and chest moved up and down quiockly, and felt hot.

We love learning about our body!!!

Food and our Body.

Today at discovery time we made sandwiches. First, we put margarine on our bread. then we could choose what spread we wanted. We could have vegemite, jam and peanut butter. We used a knife to spread it on. Then we cut it in half and took a big bite.

We put on our Black Hat and thought about what we found difficult...
We found it difficult to spread the ingredience on, we had to hold the knife correctly.
Alex's sandwich tasted too salty because he put on too much vegemite. We learnt that you only need a little bit on our knife.
During Discovery Time, we also traced around our buddies body. Inside the outline, we drew the brain, lungs, heart, bladder, stomach, small and large intestine, and liver.

We put on our yellow hat and thought about the things we enjoyed the most...
'I enjoyed tracing around Sinead.' Jessica
'I enjoyed eating my vegemite sandwich.' Kyla
'I enjoyed making my plate of food.' Jayden
'I enjoyed Alex and Kaleb tracing around me.' Levi

We are having so much fun learning about how our body digests food!!!

Healthy Food Song

Check out this cool healthy food song. It's sung by the cookie monster.

Values Award

Manaia got the Values Award in fridays sharing assembly. He got this award for showing EXCELLENCE in his attitude towards learning.

Manaia shared what he did with Leeroy, the values toy.
Manaia, we are proud of you! What a great role model!

Food Pyramid

Today we put food into six groups. Our everyday food groups are diary, fruit, vegetables, meat/fish/nuts, and breads/grains. The last food group is high in fat and sugar; this group of food we only eat for treats.

We looked for pictures of food in magazines.

We cut the pictures out and decided which group it belongs in on the food pyramid.

What did we learn?
We need to eat six servings of bread and grains everyday.
We need to eat five servings of fruit and vegetables everyday.

We also learnt that it is important to eat a VARIETY of foods from each group to stay healthy.

Discovery Time 'food, food, food'

Today we made fruit kebabs. First we had to wash the apples, grapes and pears. Then we cut the skin off the kiwifruits, bananas, oranges and pineapple. Then we cut the fruit into bite sized pieces. We finally put the fruit pieces onto our scewers.
The pineapple and orange was the juicest.
Some of us had never tired pineapple. We thought it was delicious!!
Look at the patterns we made:)

Kalebs Bird Nest

Today, Kaleb bought a birds nest to school to share with us. We looked very carefully at the nest and took turns sharing what the bird nest looks like and feels like.

We also made a list of our wonderings.
I wonder what kind of bird made this nest? (Emily-Kate)

I wonder how the bird put all of the dirt, straw, and grass together? (Levi)

I wonder how long it took the bird to make this nest? Eva

Thank you for bringing this nest to school, Kaleb. We found it very exciting and interesting. We want to find out more about birds and the kinds of nests that they make.

Marvellous Measuring

This week we have been finding the volume of different 3D shapes.
We filled the shapes with cups of water, spoon fulls of rice, toy cars and teddies.
We found that the cube had the biggest volume.

We found that the cone had the smallest volume.

Shape Collages

This week we have been looking at Picassos paintings. We have looked at the different 2D and 3D shapes in his artworks. Picasso was our inspiration when creating our own shape collages.

We overlapped our shapes, coloured them in carefully, and then dyed it with a bright colour to fill in the background. What shapes can you see?

Netball Skills

Today we went to the hall. We learnt how to pass a net ball.
We stand with one foot infront of the other.
We make sure our buddy has their target ready.
We throw the ball from our chest.
We were really good at catching the ball, it hardly fell on the ground.
